My Story

Here we begin…

Mom and Dad live in Louisiana, outside of New Orleans.

My older brother is 5, and I am born April 25th, 1985. (I was apparently conceived the night Mary Lou Retton scored a perfect 10 for the first time at the 1984 Olympic Games.)

Another brother joined our family 5 years later.

My Dad has been an artist since before I was born, so around age 6, my parents decided it was time to make a move – to Maine. More things to paint, hopefully more conscious people, and change.

Since birth, we were raised vegetarian. Sugar was never allowed in the house (unless it was raw sugar), definitely no artificial coloring or flavoring, and everything always came from the health food store. I bounced between vegetarian and vegan a bit growing up, because I was allergic to certain substances.

My brothers and I were all homeschooled, and sometimes unschooled. I went to the local public school for 8th grade, and part-time 11th and 12th grade. Not sure what made me go in that direction, but everything happens for a reason. In 12th grade, I was torn between studying dance in college or studying music (cello) in college, or not going to college at all. Somehow an opportunity came up for an audition with the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. This would be for Musical Theater – so I would still be dancing, and also studying singing and acting. It was a 2 year conservatory program with no academic classes, so it felt like an amazing opportunity and also a great alternative to going to any other University.

So, the audition went well, and a few months later I was moving to NYC.

Had same amazingly inspiring and activating experiences and some amazingly humbling experiences while attending AMDA. Somehow I always knew I was in the right place at the right time, and to keep on keep on.

I graduated in a year and a half, and went on a few auditions in the next couple of months. Lots of call-backs and great opportunities, but nothing felt completely right. I broke my arm in two places in a bicycle accident (latest hobby at the time), and was forced to take time off and reevaluate my life. Shortly after healing my arm injury, I felt the need to search for a new job. My mom recommended Pure Food and Wine, since it was her new favorite place and had recently opened. I resisted for a couple of weeks, till I saw a friend from school who just happened to have started to work there, and said they needed more help. Once I started working there, I was completely immersed in the raw food scene. Within a couple of months, my life was completely changed, friends changed, priorities changed, relationships changed, body changed, and more.

A few months later, I met David Wolfe at the Cafe and then met him again at one of his lectures. A couple weeks after that, I was hitting the road as his new assistant. Holy moly has this been a whirlwind of adventures. And it’s still going. For two years, I was constantly on the road. For the next two years, I helped create and ran NoniLand in Hawaii, which is David Wolfe’s Agricultural Research Center. In 2009, I married the love of my life, Frank Giglio. We lived in New Hampshire for a while, and have settled in Maine. I am working from home managing a few different websites in association with David Wolfe, and preparing for the next Longevity Now Conference. Franky and I live with our wonderful son Wilder Sage in Maine, and are loving growing our own food and raising animals at our mini-farm operation.
